@n1GibsonGuitarist I often think Jimmy Page looks like an old Japanese man too… My point was merely that Brian May is actually an astrophysicist and should a show in which he plays a song and then explains various esoteric theoretical concepts…

@thedeviluknow i said that cause this guy and jimmy page look alike….

@thedeviluknow You are correct , but dont you agree that whatever they used had to be under the electro magnetic principle ?
And wouldnt a any kind of gibberish signal still be an intelligent one ?

  8. thedeviluknow says:

@n1GibsonGuitarist Page ain’t but Brian May sure is! In the right kind of field too, he needs his own show…

@bandet888 Those stories come from four types of people: nuts, liars, the gullible, and Belgians.

@DaraR20 The mind of a science fiction writer (even a terrible one in the case of Hubbard) is a strange place, and when he makes up a religion you can be sure it’s going to be a little screwy.

@COMMOGSE The Kardashev scale is just a tool for categorising supposed levels of alien technological advancement based on energy available to them, it’s not flawless but I’d say it’s somewhat valuable and most likely will be somewhat accurate assuming eventual contact.
We’d have to be able to detect such signals first before we’d know whether they were intelligent, we’ve scanned a tiny fraction of the possibilities and who knows what aliens would use?

@WarriorInternationa1 Unfortunately it’s been demonstrated that ‘c’ which is equivalent to the speed of light in a vacuum is the top speed at which anything can move in the universe, and even then only things without rest mass. That’s not to say that it’s impossible to cross great distances with an apparent velocity greater than c but it may be, we just don’t know.

  15. thedeviluknow says:

@COMMOGSE Actually we know the universe is not infinite via several other methods, mainly because we know it had a beginning and roughly when that happened, we’ve made and confirmed astrophysical predictions based on a finite universe. Using the dark night sky as an argument against an infinite universe would only work with a universe of infinite extent and age, we know the universe is only ~13.5B years old and that most of it will never be visible so it’s not a great argument.

@888finite888 You’re kinda skirting around the idea here but I guess not seeing it. You ask where does the gravitational pull come from and then talk about large celestial bodies, you answered your own question right there. Large celestial bodies with billions of solar masses have a lot of attraction for nearby bodies with similar mass, that’s how galaxies collide.

@COMMOGSE :) This must be a “where’s wally” game. Please do tell me where “STABLE” occured in the following sentence that YOU wrote :D

“Find out about the periodic table of elements and why there cannot be any unknown elements.”

Where’s Wally? :D Backtracks are very obvious you know :)

    [Reply]

  21. COMMOGSE says:

@taybh1 The secret word is STABLE elements !
All elements with a higher atomic number than lead 82 are radioactive.
I guess you know what that means ?

    [Reply]

  22. taybh1 says:

@COMMOGSE Oh dear, you’re really showing your ignorance again. “cannot be any unknown elements?”?

Tell me when was the following elements found?
    Ununquadium
    Ununhexium
    Ununoctium
    Ununtrium
    Ununpentium
And finally the biggest example of your silly idea: Ununseptium

@RAKIMALLAH12 Need to point this out. Space is not a perfect vacuum. I’m not sure if a perfect vacuum exists in nature. From wikipedia “Outer space is an even higher-quality vacuum, with the equivalent of just a few hydrogen atoms per cubic meter on average.[4]“.

If you somehow breath hydrogen and very very little of it, you can survive

They have no consciousness, they are just able to calculate very fast.
Comments from just one physicist about AI is not reliable for me.
Neuroscientists should comment on this case.
No one today is able to explain what consciousness really is, and I doubt that it will be explained and the explanation will be proved in this century.

  27. JOTTABYTE says:

brizihe yes I agree with you and I know what quantum computers is but the problem is that the topic is about AI and Kaku talks about Moore`s law and quantum computers. Moore`s law has nothing to do with the concept of AI neither quantum computersI!!
Moore`s law is the law that explains the development of a CPU,and quantum computer is just a computer like every PCs in the world today only difference is that they use quanta as transistors.

    [Reply]

  28. brizihe says:

@JOTTABYTE Besides, quantum computers aren’t fully understood. Some people think it’s just an infinitely faster pc, but some people think its a completely different concept. Until one is close to being made, I guess we will never know!

@cmxsevenfoldxmc It was pretty good. He’s very knowledgable of his craft, of course. My only complaint was that the class was over 100 students in a gigantic lecture hall, so there was no interpersonal connections. Otherwise, absolutely awesome. He’s considered one of the best professors on campus. He always ends class with videos…usually with himself in them. LOL.

  34. cmxsevenfoldxmc says:

@tErMiiNeX It could be a chip that is controlled externally (meaning outside their mainframe). However, you’re absolutely right. They could eventually isolate the probable cause of their demise (after seeing a few of their own die from similar causes) and begin to make a routine extraction of this chip from all future robots to continue their rebellion. Scary shit.

  42. dbuezas says:

I don’t know why this guy is so popular. What is the relation between how fast an under powered robot can move and intelligence? Physicist now nothing about algorithmics. Neurons are way slower than their digital counterpart, intelligence is not a matter of speed of components, it is a mater of their number and interconnectivity. We just need to read a brain neuron by neuron (and that is already in progress) and make chip manufacturing cheap enough to have a computer in which to run a simulation
