The Largest Black Holes in the Universe

How big can they get? What’s the largest so far detected? Where does an 18 billion solar mass black hole hide? We’ve never seen them directly… yet we know they are there… Lurking within dense star clusters… Or wandering the dust lanes of the galaxy…. Where they prey on stars… Or swallow planets whole. Our Milky Way may harbor millions of these black holes… the ultra dense remnants of dead stars. But now, in the universe far beyond our galaxy, there’s evidence of something even more ominous… A breed of black holes that have reached incomprehensible size and destructive power. It has taken a new era in astronomy to find them… High-tech instruments in space tuned to sense high-energy forms of light — x-rays and gamma rays — that are invisible to our eyes. New precision telescopes equipped with technologies that allow them to cancel out the blurring effects of the atmosphere… and see to the far reaches of the universe. Peering into distant galaxies, astronomers are now finding evidence that space and time can be shattered by eruptions so vast they boggle the mind. We are just beginning to understand the impact these outbursts have had on the universe around us. That understanding recently took a leap forward. A team operating at the Subaru Observatory atop Hawaii’s Mauna Kea volcano looked out to one of the deepest reaches of the universe… And captured a beam of light that had taken nearly 13 billion years to reach us. It was a messenger from a time not …

@gonzalovera321 haha u dont hafta b scared…..considering how huge the universe is, its like being scared that youll be killed in a freak tea party accident

@crazyfaceperson see.. you can’t really believe in the bible AND the big bang theory — it’s one or the other.

@An00bIS22 Problem is that we do understand some of these physics. We do not however, have any understanding, knowledge or evidence of an all powerful being, that currently only exists in the imagination of some peoples minds. So when people wildy throw out these extraordinary claims, i will only point out that extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence, otherwise they are back to square one. And yes, the video is nice, that why I am here in the first place, obviously.

@MrPlayFox You would be ripped apart very very quickly, your matter compressed into the singularity of the black hole.
I don’t think it would hurt too much…
I, on the other hand, will be watching through a telescope, sipping on wine…

@beebogroll It has just been translated by some extreme creationists to say that. I believe in The Bible, Jesus, and God. But I also believe that the universe is in the billions of year of age and in the big bang. I have read to many things that show this is the most reasonable beginning of the universe.

You are trying to apply primitive human understanding of physics to prove a point directed on a being that can manipulate or ignore them at will…. please keep religion bashing out and just enjoy the video.

@pcbmusic Unfortunately, if you are outside of time and space, you are outside of reality, which means, you do not exist. If you claim God to be there, then he simply do not exist. Yet if you insist that he does, you first have to prove that God (whatever that is) actually exists, then you need to demonstrate that you can actually exist outside of reality. Until you can actually do this, this is nothing but pure fantasy and leads you nowhere.

@allinoner: From what I understand (and I’m not an expert, so take this with a grain of salt): People don’t fully understand black holes at the moment, but the distances between stars are vast, and a black hole doesn’t grow unless it’s absorbing matter, so they may never spread to neighbouring star systems if they’re small enough.

i have a preety good question. How fast does those black holes operate? Lets say if tomorrow a black hole appears in our universe near earth, how long will it take to devour our universe? is it a matter of 1 year 2 years? or is it going to take some billion years to devour our galaxy? What i am actualy asking is will we be able to live with a black hole near us? can we wake up in the morning and say..uh there it is, it has grown bigger?

@pcbmusic “God exists outside of time as we know it.” Wow I didn’t know that, thnx for telling
. Speaking of a GOD in science doesn’t make sense because we don’t have proof there is one nor proof that there isn’t one.

97% of the universe is dark matter/energy, two things we know nothing about, yet are holding our universe together. God exists outside of time as we know it. Look at it this way: Facts lead to faith, or faith leads to facts.
