Quantum Physics is amazing!
Me playing a game that I’ve been working on. I got a change to test the game on one of those notebook laptops. It’s called Crayon Physics Deluxe and it’s a sequel to a freeware game I did in June. @ClipTreats … it’s explained here in a funny way so it’s confusing but the reason “comes” from the Heisenberg uncertainty principle that state that we can not know (with an infinite precision) the position and speed (momentum) of an entity at the same time. Remember, you can not understand quantum mechanics with “everyday common sense”, you have to do the Theory, that mean the maths, to accept the description of your model. you accept it and learn to work with it more than you understand it.

i wonder if our “universe” exists in a computer simulation of sorts, and to save cpu cycles matter behaves one way when there is no observer and then another more cpu intensive way when it is observed.

This is explained by the theory that our reality is, in fact, a simulation. It’s a waste of resources to render things that only exist ‘in theory’, so the electron is not rendered until it’s measured. When the measurement is the back wall, until it strikes the electron does not exist. When the measurement is at the slit, poof, it pops into existence there and acts according to the rules of physics.
