Time correlation functions in quantum continuous measurement. (arXiv:1104.4126v1 [quant-ph])

A continuous projective measurement of a quantum system often leads to
suppression of the dynamics, known as the Zeno effect. Alternatively
generalized nonprojective, so called “weak” measurements can be performed. Such
a measurement is parametrized by its strength parameter that can interpolate
continuously between ideal strong measurement with no dynamics — strict Zeno
effect, and weak measurement characterized by almost free dynamics but blurry
observations. Practical applications of these ideas are affected also by the
size of the observed ensemble (or the number of measurements done), that can
vary from a single particle/trajectory to a macroscopic size. We discuss these
issues in terms of the time correlation functions associated with the
measurement process and demonstrate their usefulness for a harmonic oscillator
and a two-level systems.
